Rec & Ride this summer: discounted PRC & transit pass for children & youth now available

June 20, 2024

News Release

Back by popular demand, the Rec & Ride Summer Youth pass is returning and offers kids a way to stay busy, social and active all summer long. This highly discounted pass includes access to both local transit and Parkinson Recreation Centre services throughout July and August for youth in our community aged 18 and under. Passes are $20 for children up to age 12 and $50 for youth ages 13-18.

“Last year’s response to the pass was overwhelming and we are thrilled to once again offer this program which helps inspire kids and youth to get active with us while they’re out of school for the summer, along with the ride to get here via BC Transit,” says Lisa Ruether, Recreation Services Supervisor. “We encourage kids and families in our community to take advantage of the pass and join us at Parkinson Recreation Centre for a swim, workout or just to play casual sports in the gym.”

With the pass, youth will be able to ride anywhere within Kelowna on the bus throughout July and August. Kids 12 and under already ride the bus for free.

“This partnership has been a great benefit for youth in our community,” says Mike Kittmer, City Transit and Programs Manager. “Being able to jump on a bus enables youth to have more access to their friends, family and their favourite activities throughout the summer.”

Passes can be purchased in-person at Parkinson Recreation Centre (1800 Parkinson Way) starting today (June 20) and will be valid from June 28 until September 2, 2024. First time pass holders must be present at time of purchase to have their photo taken for the pass, and identification is required for children aged 13 and up, including school ID or driver’s license. Adults accompanying a youth under 13 years of age with a Rec & Ride pass will be offered a $2 drop-in fee to encourage families to participate together.

The Rec & Ride Summer Youth Pass is offered with financial support from the Stober Foundation to help support barrier-free access to activities for kids. For a limited time (provided on a first come, first served basis) 2024 Rec & Ride passes will be 25% off thanks to the generous support of the Stober Foundation.
