KLO /OK College Transit Exchange Expansion
The project will result in the expansion of the existing 2 bus bays and passenger platform to 4 bus bays along the north side of KLO Rd.
Work is expected to take place this summer and includes an extention to the Active Transportation Corridor network, connecting the bike path through the OC Kelowna campus
The K.L.O. Road Active Transportation Corridor (ATC) is part of the city’s all ages and abilities bike network. The new bike path link connects to a continuous path that spans from the Mission Recreation Park in the south, north to the Cawston Ave. pathway in downtown Kelowna.
Currently the campus link stops in front of the new student housing building at Campus Road West, but will be extended into the middle of campus, connecting to the BC transit exchange on K.L.O. Road at the front of the College.
The improvements are part of a transit exchange expansion that will add new transit bays to allow for increased transit capacity and service at the K.L.O exchange. Adjustments to the existing bus loop are planned to improve safety between pedestrians, vehicles and buses. The work will coincide with construction of the new Okanagan College Centre for Food, Wine and Tourism beginning this year.
As part of the Active Transportation Corridor work, the city will need to remove four small trees and two mature trees. The project will replant 14 new trees when complete.
