Mission Creek Riffles - Reach 4

Home > Our community > Planning & projects > Current capital projects > Mission Creek Riffles - Reach 4

Riffles, which are shallow landforms constructed from rocks in a flowing body of water, will be built along Mission Creek. These natural features oxygenate the water, creating ideal conditions for fish to spawn and rest. Additionally, they act as natural flood protection by slowing water flow and providing a catchment area during high water events.
This project, partially funded through a $22 million grant from the Government of Canada’s Disaster Mitigation and Adaption Fund, aligns with the larger 2024 flood protection and habitat restoration plan, emphasizing our commitment to sustainable environmental practices and community safety. Funding commitments from Mission Creek Restoration Initiative (MCRI), along with support from the Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO)
