Public Service Announcement
Construction will begin on Monday, March 18, on a $390,000 project to upgrade Knox Mountain’s first lookout. The project will take place in two phases, with Phase 1 expected to be completed by mid-May and Phase 2 expected to begin in late 2024 or 2025.
Phase 1 improvements:
- Creation of a comfortable and open gathering space at the east end of the existing parking area including a small plaza, stage, custom benches, and natural area fencing.
- Parking lot configuration improvements.
- Accessibility enhancements to the first lookout structure.
- Enhanced bike parking.
Knox Mountain Drive will remain closed for safety and traffic management during phase one of construction, with reopening planned for mid-May.
The first lookout structure will be closed during phase one of construction, and there will be some minor detours for hikers coming up the Apex trail. Alternate routes will be clearly marked.
Phase 2 improvements:
- Climate resilient landscaping.
- Temporary irrigation.
- Cultural interpretive features.
