The Work

This set of 6 murals depicts events in the history of French-speaking settlers in the Okanagan. The murals are meant to enhance the visibility of the francophone community within the Central Okanagan as well as promote cultural diversity.

The Project

The Centre received a grant of $7,500.00 under the Community Public Art Program towards completion of the murals. The murals were installed in fall of 2014.

The Artist

The murals were painted by Henri Brazeau. A musician and painter, Mr. Brazeau was commissioned to complete an oil canvas for Montreceux Castle in Sussex, England. He has also completed murals for the City of Cloverdale, the Clover Valley Music Society Festival, and the Coca Cola company. Mr. Brazeasu holds accreditation from S. Carolina University and a Ph.D. in Applied Behavioural Psychology from Crown University, London U.K. He also trained in fine arts at the University of Ottawa.

Viewing

The installation is located on the west wall of the Centre culturel francophone de l'Okanagan at 702 Bernard Avenue.
