Plant some good in your hood: Grants available for neighbourhood-led projects and events this spring

January 16, 2024

Public Service Announcement

Despite the cold winter weather, now is the time to plant your ideas for neighbourhood-led projects and events to bloom this spring! If you have an idea to connect neighbours and enhance your neighbourhood, we can support you in bringing your idea to life.

The Neighbourhood Grant and Youth Development and Engagement Grant programs are currently accepting applications for projects taking place this spring. These include any resident-led projects or events that aim to foster connections with neighbours and/or enhance the quality of life in your neighbourhood.

Neighbourhood Grants

With the support of the Central Okanagan Foundation, Neighbourhood Grants provide up to $1,500 in matching funds to support projects in your neighbourhood. If your idea helps to foster connections and is inclusive to all in your neighbourhood, we want to support it! Ideas may include planting a community garden, alleyway beautification, block party, paint night, talent show, porch concert, scavenger hunt, and so much more! Get inspired by some of our past grant recipients and bring your idea to life this spring.

Applications for spring projects are currently being accepted until January 26. Grants awarded will support projects to be completed before the end of June 2024.

Youth Development & Engagement Grants

The Youth Development and Engagement Grant offers up to $1,000 in matching funds for youth-led community building projects or events. Youth ages 13-24 can team up to get creative and take the lead. Ideas to help get inspired may include hosting a film festival, open mic night, porch concert, fashion show, or creating a little free library or mural.

These grants are a great opportunity to gain leadership experience, boost your resume, rack up volunteer hours, and build friendships while improving your neighbourhood. Applications for youth development and engagement grants for 2024 are being accepted until all allocated funds have been awarded.

Get creative, connect with others and dream up ways to make your neighbourhood an even better place to live!
