Job Summary:
The City of Kelowna is looking for a Licensed Care Program Instructor at Bankhead Elementary and Watson Road Elementary. Part time during the regular school year in After School Care. We are looking for dynamic and motivated individuals to join our team and work with an amazing group of kids and passionate instructors.
The After School Licensed Care Program Instructor will plan and implement quality childcare based on the philosophy and mandate set by the City of Kelowna and Licensing requirements. This position will provide guidance, supervision, and programming that creates a safe, fun, and nurturing environment for all children.
This position reports to and works under the supervision of the Licensed Care Program Manager and under the direction of the Community Recreation Coordinator. It is expected that the Licensed Care Program Instructor will work with a small team of Contract Instructors at the Bankhead and/or Watson Road sites to lead the children attending the program.
Note: this is a contract position – the selected candidate will be hired as a Contract Instructor for the City of Kelowna. This contract is reviewed and renewed on a seasonal basis.
Work Performed:
This position will be responsible for planning and delivering the program, collaborating with other staff, working within Licensing requirements, providing behavioral guidance, creating and implementing care plans, communicating with parents, and leading a group of children hands-on in our school-aged program (K-12Y).
Minimum Qualifications:
- Up to date First Aid/CPR certificate, with Emergency Child Care portion
- 20 hours of relevant training as a Responsible Adult - You must have completed a course or combination of courses of at least 20 hours in duration in child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition.
- Required to complete a Criminal Record Check
- Available for various shifts between 2:00pm - 6:00pm (10-20 hours per week), during the school year
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous Licensed Care experience, or experience working with children.
- Ability to independently lead groups of children aged 6Y-12Y
- Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal and written and oral communications skills
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Effective problem-solving skills and ability to exercise sound judgement.
- Option to work part time during the school year, various shifts between 2:00 - 6:00 pm (10-20 hours per week).

Wage: Starting at $20.00 per hour based on experience, plus additional ECE Wage Enhancement if applicable ($6.00 per hour).

The City of Kelowna is looking for a sport program monitor to support indoor volleyball leagues for Winter 2025. Monitors are responsible for ensuring programs are running smooth, maintaining a positive environment for participants, providing facility access, equipment set-up/take down, general customer service and more.
Indoor volleyball leagues are for adults (18+) who are looking to compete in recreational and competitive organized leagues. Leagues run for the winter season from mid-January to mid-March in the evenings.
Qualifications
- Required to complete a Criminal Record Check
- Positive individual with good communication skills
- Ability to work independently
- Access to a vehicle
- Knowledge and experience of the game of volleyball required
- Experience with adult sports leagues preferred

Park & Play is a free community-driven event designed to inspire families to enjoy the outdoors, explore local parks and green spaces, and build neighbourhood connections. Our dedicated Park & Play team will be stationed at selected parks, offering a range of free recreational activities, including giant lawn games, relays, inflatables, soccer, catch, and leading various inclusive activities. Role Overview
Reporting to the Community Development Coordinators, Park & Play leaders will:
- Contribute to the planning, promotion and delivery of the Park & Play program.
- Lead fun, safe, accessible and inclusive recreational activities, including ball sports, relay races, lawn games, and various team and individual activities.
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive family and neighbourhood environment.
- Promote and support the active involvement of families in the program.
- Set up and take down equipment, following safety protocols and guidelines
Qualifications
- Background in recreation, community or social development, education, childcare, and/or coordinating special events is strongly recommended.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Demonstrate attention to detail.
- Capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Self-motivated with a positive attitude.
- Experience working with children and families.
- Effective problem-solving skills and ability to exercise sound judgement
- First aid and CPR certification are required or willing to obtain.
- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check.
- Ability to lift and repetitively handle heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Comfortable assisting in moving heavier items (e.g., bouncy castle) with support from fellow staff and assistive equipment.
Full Time Position Qualifications:
- Ability to drive the City truck and trailer to and from events is essential (Training is provided). Therefore, applicants seeking a full-time position must be at least 19 years of age and possess a valid CLASS 5 Driver’s License for consideration.
- Provide a valid Drivers Abstract.
Positions Available
- 2 full time positions Monday-Friday 2pm-9pm (July 2-August 22, 2025).) with additional part time shifts in May & June (Specific times to be confirmed).
- 1-2 part time position Monday-Friday 4:30-8:30/9:00pm (July 2-August 22, 2025).) with additional part time shifts in May & June (Specific times to be confirmed).
- 1-2 casual positions covering shifts not filled by regular staff (varies).
*Note: Required training: May 12-16, 2025.
Pay Rate
- Full-time: $23/hour
- Part-time: $20/hour
