Winter Banner

Location

The banners will span both sides of the road, starting at the Queensway traffic circle to the Water Street/Sunset Drive intersection, creating a vibrant visual presence. The area is indicated with a dotted yellow line on the image below.

Designs

The design(s) will cover a total of 17 poles with double banners and 10 poles with single banners for a total of 37 banners. The design(s) should work for either a “single” pole design or for poles with double banners which will have an additional “companion” design. The Artist may choose to design a single repeated design or repeated series of designs. Designs may also use a diptych approach (design split into 2 panels) on the same pole.

Payment

One artist will be chosen to supply the design(s) for the entire project. The selected artist will receive payment of $2,500 (plus GST if applicable) for their banner design(s). Fabrication and installation costs are covered by the City and are not included in this fee. The artist’s design(s) will be in circulation for this project for up to 10 years.

Submissions must be received by email to culture@kelowna.ca no later than 3 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2024.

To apply, artists must include in their email:

  • Name, address, contact information and any website or social media handles that highlight your work.
  • An attached written statement about your proposed design, and how it supports the banner theme (up to 350 words).
  • An artist biography (up to 250 words).
  • A draft of the artwork that displays form, colour and character of the proposed work. This does not have to be a final design however it should give an opportunity for those making the selection to understand the general composition and direction of the future finished work. The artist, if selected, will have the opportunity to develop drafts into a completed product.
  • Prior completed works that further illustrates the direction, style, and form of art that will be used for this banner project (optional).
