Community for All
As part of the Healthy City Strategy, City planners and Interior Health public health practitioners worked together on the first of six theme areas: creating a Community for All.
The Community for All Action Plan identifies areas to adapt policies, plans and programs to respond to the evolving needs of our community. Taking steps to enable seniors to live healthier lifestyles will provide co-benefits to children and residents with diverse abilities, enabling them to be active and be engaged within our community.
In 2019 , through the work of the Community for All Action Plan, Kelowna achieved Age-Friendly BC Community Recognition from the BC Ministry of Health. The Province acknowledged that the Community for All Action Plan targets not only seniors, but a combination of ages and abilities – including children and those with diverse abilities – to create an inclusive community.
In 2017, we completed a Parks and Buildings Assessment Report of City parks and buildings as they relate to age and ability friendly design. Information regarding the accessibility and age friendly amenities of Kelowna's parks and buildings can be found in People in Motion's Accessibility Guide.
